Four Brimbank State Emergency Services members have been recognised for their work at the 2019-20 Victorian Bushfires.
Commemorative pins were created to acknowledge all those involved in fighting the blazes that blanketed our state. More than 1.5 million hectares of land was burned, destroying hundreds of properties.
The specially designed pin pays tribute to the emergency services workers, volunteers and partner organisations and was designed by a member of the Gunnai and Yorta Yorta people.
Former unit controller Phillip Jordan, Christopher Riley, Christopher Schneider and Daniel Fitton received their fire pins recently at the Brimbank Unit’s annual general meeting for their contributions to help fight the fires.
The four were part of Taskforce Delta which was sent to the Traralgon and then Sale and Bairnsdale in the following days.
They took a medium rescue track and 4-wheel drive and lighting platform with them to Gippsalnd. They spent three days at the fires.
The SES were at the fires in a logistical support role assisting with the staging area, incident command (staff), traffic management.
