The Brimbank Seniors Festival kicked off last week, with numerous events planned for Brimbank’s older citizens during the coming weeks.
Launched as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival, the Brimbank calendar of events offers a wide range of activities and attractions, including comedy, sports and dances.
The festival was launched at a lunch last week, with many community groups represented among the 600 guests, as well as almost the entire Brimbank council.
Mayor John Hedditch said the festival was an important part of the year.
“The Brimbank Seniors Festival is all about celebrating our wonderful seniors, who make up about 20 per cent of Brimbank’s residents,” Cr Hedditch said. “The seniors lunch and dance, in particular, is something many locals look forward to each year.
“This year we planned 24 fantastic events which have been running since last week. This includes ‘in conversation’ events, open days, opera and orchestra performances, exhibitions and classes at our leisure centres.
“All of the events have been very well received and we’ve had very positive feedback from all those people participating.”
The festival will run until the end of the month, with a full calendar of events available at www.brimbank.vic.gov.au/community/brimbank-seniors-festival-2017.
