A second person has been charged in relation to the murder of Albanvale man David Whimpey.

A Sunshine man, 46, was charged yesterday with one count of murder. It comes six days after a St Albans man, 31, was charged with murder and remanded in custody.

The pair will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court today.

Mr Whimpey’s body was discovered in a barrel at a property on Valley Road in Mia Mia, near Lake Eppaloch last Monday.

Mia Mia is about one hour’s drive north of Melbourne.

Missing person squad detectives want to speak to anyone who may have seen a 2009-model silver Subaru Impreza travelling at speed along Heathcote-Kyneton Road on the morning of Monday, October 24 last year, the day Mr Whimpey was last seen near the Keilor Hotel.

At the time the 30-year-old’s disappearance was described as out of character.
