Brimbank’s tennis stars of the future are well equipped to take their game to the next level after hundreds of new racquets were donated to schools last week.
The ANZ Tennis Hot Shots and Tennis Australia school partnership program distributed 431 racquets to nine schools across Brimbank.
Sydenham-Hillside Primary School is the main beneficiary, receiving 87 racquets, while Keilor Views Primary gets 83 racquets and Mackeller Primary 63.
Albion North Primary (52), Sunshine North Primary (50), Monmia Primary (42), Ardeer (24), Overnewton Anglican College (20) and Cana Catholic Primary (10) also received racquets.
Albion North Primary School physical education teacher Leanne Dumaresq said the new equipment had generated much excitement.
“We gave the racquets to our prep students to take home so they can practise,” she said.
“They were really excited to be able to take them home, which was wonderful to see.
“This is actually our second year doing it and this year’s students were just as thrilled as last year’s were.”
Tennis Australia chief executive Craig Tiley said the initiative was part of a wider commitment to ensure school children are living an active lifestyle.
“This ongoing initiative shows our continued joint commitment with ANZ to increasing tennis participation and ensuring kids are active at school,” Mr Tiley said.
“At Tennis Australia, we want to continue to support schools in providing an environment where the health and wellbeing of students is a top priority.”
