Preparations are under way for this week’s arrival of 18 students and three teachers from Victoria University Secondary College’s Chinese sister school, the high school attached to Yangzhou University in Jiangsu Province.
After a welcome at Government House on Thursday, the visiting students will be at their sister school from Friday until next Tuesday, joining classes and enjoying a concert band performance, some sightseeing and Australian cultural experiences, including an AFL rules football game and a staff-versus-students volleyball game.
The visit follows the VU school’s trip to China in March and April, when assistant principal Sue Atzarakis and students Kira Silharath and Phong Le (pictured) made the journey to the Great Wall and other famous sites. Principal’s assistant Anita Stanley said the college had sent year 9 students to China for the past three years as part of the Victorian Young Leaders to China program, and would do so again next year.
