Fond memories of muck-up days on the roof of the school library will be rekindled when about 800 former students and staff celebrate the 60th anniversary of St Albans Secondary College.

A celebratory three-course dinner and dance at Moonee Valley racecourse on June 11, with a staff band keeping everybody entertained, will be followed by a school open day on the following Sunday.

Anita McDairmid, a former student who graduated in 1977, is encouraging former students to attend.

“Meeting at a reunion is wonderful … all those memories return and you are no longer the responsible adult but morph into that teenager,” she said.

“In my final year we had our muck-up day on the roof of the library, I recall it had opened that year.

“Then it was flour-bombing teachers and students, all in together. It was fabulous.”

The school knows how to put on a party – 2006’s 50th celebrations attracted so many guests they exceeded venue capacity.

“If you’re thinking about it [attending], don’t – just do it,” Anita said.
