A student at the Christ the Priest Primary School in Caroline Springs has tested positive for coronavirus.
School principal Adele Vesty sent a letter to the families of students on Monday morning, confirming that the Department of Health has confirmed a positive case had attended the school.
In the letter, seen by Star Weekly, Ms Vesty said the positive case attended the school on August 4 and 5.
“Following advice from the DH and Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS), Christ the Priest will be closed from August 9 to complete a pandemic clean and conduct contact tracing,” the letter states.
“All students and adults that attended the school site on the 4th and 5th of August are now primary close contacts and need to test. As primary close contacts, you will also need to isolate for 14 days.
“Anyone living in the household of a primary close contact will also need to isolate.”
The letter states that the health department would be in contact with those identified as close contacts.
Ms Vesty said she understood that the news would be concerning for many in the school community.
“I want to assure you we are doing everything we can to contain and slow the spread of the virus and ensure the health and safety of our whole school community,” she said.
“We will update all families once the contact tracing has been completed and a decision about reopening the school facilities for students is made.”
