More than 100 Brimbank families in need were thrown a lifeline last week in the form of a free supermarket in Sunshine.
To mark Anti-Poverty Week, the Salvation Army opened the supermarket on Devonshire Road for two days, allowing clients to stock up on essential items.
Salvos client services manager Hazel Cleary said the organisation was proud to help so many people with Christmas approaching.
“We had over 100 households come in – a result we were delighted with,” she said. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to run one again soon, depending on donations.”
Families were able to obtain dairy products, fruit and tinned goods.
