Kristian and Alissa Martan will pound the pavement in memory of their mother at next month’s City2Sea run, raising funds for breast cancer research in the process.
The siblings, who ran in last year’s event while their mother, Ingrid, was battling secondary breast cancer, are hoping to raise more than $3000 in this year’s run.
Ingrid died three months ago, so Kristian said it would be an emotional run.
“I feel very grateful to be doing this run, and to do it in memory of mum is a big thing for our family,” he said.
“She was an amazing woman – right from the time she started fighting this six years ago she kept putting others first and put up a hell of a fight.
“It’s a different feeling to last year. It’s certainly emotional, but we’re doing everything we can to raise money and find a cure.”
The City2Sea will take place on Sunday, November 12.
