Reducing car reliance and improving pedestrian and cyclist safety will be a key focus in planning for the future Rockbank Town Centre, as outlined in a draft plan.
Streets have been designed to reflect an “emphasis” on walking in the town centre, and accessing the nearby train station by foot, scooter, bus and car will be “seamless”
Fourteen key principles have been identified for planning the town centre, including a focus on mixed land use, high-quality public spaces and sustainability.
“Water will be collected, cleansed, infiltrated, and where possible harvested and used to support the landscapes and the people of Rockbank,” according to the draft plan.
Members of the public are being invited to have their say on the plan.
Melton mayor Bob Turner said: “We want to make sure Rockbank and surrounds can thrive … feedback is so important to achieving this.”
Officers from the Ballarat Rail Project and Melton council will be at an information session this week to discuss the draft plan.
The drop-in session will run from 5-8pm on Thursday, August 23, at Rockbank Hall, 24 Old Leakes Road.
Those unable to attend can view the draft plan on Melton council’s website and comment until September 21.
