Copperfield College played host to the rise of the machines at the weekend.

The Sydenham school held the first round of the annual VEX Robotics season on Saturday.

The tournament involved 17 teams from around the state who were keen to flex their might in robotic design, programming and construction.

Copperfield College teacher Michael Horn said a lot of time and effort had gone into the event.

“Some were great at design, some at programming, others the building – it was terrific to see the teamwork on display,” he said.

The school entered three teams in the competition and while they performed well, they but didn’t bring home the main prize.

However year 10 student Anthony is eager for his next competition.

“This is what I want to do in the future – anything to do with robotics interests me,” he said. “I was happy with the robot I created, but I always want to improve on what I have.”
