A record crowd gathered at the Keilor Off Road Remote Control Car Club last week for the off road 1/10th Australian Championships.
The track has recently undergone a number of upgrades and despite rainy weather, the club’s secretary Christina Munday said it was an event enjoyed by all.
“The two wheel drive event went ahead, but unfortunately the truck and four wheel drive events were rained out,” she said.
“It was spectacular to see, we had about 140 people attend, I’ve never seen the track so packed.”
Around 230 entries were received from all around the country for the event, and the club prepared a brand new track layout which was fast and challenging.
While mother nature made life difficult with very hot and windy conditions during practice sessions and the two wheel drive day, conditions turned for the worst and heavy rained washed out further planned events.
However that didn’t mean there wasn’t any quality racing.
Defending champion Chris Sturdy took out the 2wd modified class, while Andrew Selvaggi took out the 2wd 17.5 class national title.
The state titles will be fought out at the venue next year.
