Residents fight former school development

Keilor Park residents have lodged a petition objecting to Development Victoria’s plans for 46 Eliza Street.

The petition was lodged with the Brimbank council at its August meeting and had 404 signatories.

Development Victoria has proposed building 72 townhouses and a park on the site of the former Keilor Park Primary School.

Residents turned out in force last month, packing out two information sessions to voice their displeasure with the plans.

Residents said there were a number of issues with the proposal, including parking arrangements and adding traffic to an already congested area.

Member for Niddrie Ben Carroll threw his support behind the community and has said he will advocate to reduce the number of houses slated for the site.

“I’ll be writing to the minister and requesting that further community consultation be carried out,” Mr Carroll said.

“I’ll also be seeking a reduction in the number of dwellings planned for the development.

“The other thing I’ll be requesting is that the development be a mix of both single and double storey dwellings.”

The council received the petition and will refer it to Development Victoria.
