Park reserved for fun

Jamieson Street Reserve in St Albans is being transformed.

Brimbank council has announced a $450,000 project to build new playgrounds, electric barbecues and drinking fountains, as well as a new sheltered picnic area and a dedicated outdoor gym area at the reserve.

Brimbank deputy mayor Daniel Allan said the council had consulted extensively with the community on the new design.

“The updated design for the reserve responds directly to comments and requests we received from the community,” Cr Allan said.

The council also consulted with Scope, a youth disability support service that has one of its facilities next to the park.

“Following our discussions with Scope, we will be creating easier wheelchair access to provide a greater opportunity for play and social gatherings,” Cr Allan said.

More shade trees will also be planted around the playground area, while a range of additional seating options will be added.

The new playground will include a large climbing net with tubular slide, all-inclusive play equipment, a spinner, and swing sets with a basket swing.

Jamieson Street Reserve is one of the largest suburban parks in the St Albans area with just over five hectares of rolling lawns, trees and low cover flowering plants.

There will be restricted access at Jamieson Street Reserve while works are ongoing. Works are expected to be completed by May 2018.
