On Saturday, October 19 the Red Cross will be teaming up with Uber for a nationwide clothing drive.
Held in all major cities, Red Cross x Uber Clothing Drive will offer free pick-up for clothing donation bags, to be delivered to local Red Cross Shop locations by Uber. The clothing drive comes as new research conducted by Red Cross reveals there is more than $20 billion in unworn clothing lying idle in wardrobes across the country. The Red Cross wants these clothes to be donated so they can be sold to help fund their essential work.
Australian Red Cross Head of Retail Richard Wood said they were incredibly appreciative of all donations, especially as many people continue to face financial challenges.
“With this Clothing Drive, we’re encouraging Aussies to donate better, focusing on quality clothing that can be sold in Australian Red Cross Shops,” Mr Wood said.
“These quality pieces can make a huge difference in proceeds raised for our humanitarian programs.”
By offering a free package pick-up for their donations, the Red Cross are hoping more people than ever will give back and make a meaningful impact.
Those interested in taking part are advised to gather their pre-loved items into a bag or box, no heavier than 20kg, so it comfortably sits in the boot of a midsize car.
Then, between 10am to 4pm local time on October 19, donors should open the Uber app, scroll to the Red Cross Clothing Drive image, and tap to set a drop off spot.
Donations should be left on a doorstep or curb and the trip is free.
