Record crowd for Sunshine Lantern Festival

Police estimate more than 50,000 people came to Sunshine for the festival yesterday.
A record crowd and some Bollywood-style dancing has many local residents thinking the Sunshine Lantern Festival 2016 was the best yet.
More than 50,000 people flocked to Hampshire Road in Sunshine yesterday for the free annual street festival, featuring rides, street performers, music, food of many nations and the official Lantern Parade, over ten huge hours.
It was massive jump in crowd numbers after 35,000 came last year.
Sunshine Business Association Carson Luk said the association had been inundated with positive comments from the community.
He said residents believed the fireworks were better than ever and many loved the festival’s family atmosphere.
“Victoria Police estimated 50,000 in attendance and incident free,” he said.
“A crowd record.”
