Work has started to relocate and protect critical utility services along the Melbourne Airport Rail route near the new proposed Keilor East station.

Road closures in Roberts Street, Airport West are set to be in place from later this month until the middle of the year.

Upcoming works will involve digging a shaft in Roberts Road to bore new services under the rail corridor, and a new pressure regulator and water main on Terror Street, Keilor Park, will ensure the safe transport of water through the pipe network.

A section of Roberts Road between the business precinct and Moorna Drive will be closed from late February to mid-2023 with a signed detour in place, with many drivers likely to have to use Keilor Park Drive to access businesses along the site.

Access for vehicles will also be restricted at the northern ends of Borva Drive and Slater Parade to allow for the establishment of works areas, and sections of the Western Ring path and footpaths throughout the project area will be closed at times with signed detours in place.

There will be lane closures at times on Terror Street and Fullarton Road during the works.

To minimise disruptions, traffic will be maintained in both directions on these streets, with traffic management in place.

A Rail Project Victoria spokesperson thanked drivers for their patience in advance.

“Work is underway in Keilor East to prepare for construction on Melbourne Airport Rail, and the new station at Keilor East means airport rail will truly be a new rail line for Melbourne’s west, connecting hundreds of thousands of people to Melbourne’s train network for the first time.“

“Moving utility services will mean fewer disruptions to residents and businesses as we continue to lay the foundations for this highly anticipated project.”

Meanwhile, there’s also works happening in Auburn Avenue in Sunshine North, through February and March.
