With National Pet Adoption Day just around the corner, Brimbank residents are being urged to consider adding a furry member to their family.
While the official adoption day is February 9, PETstock Taylors Lakes is already helping large numbers of pets find new homes – especially kittens.
Caroline Springs resident Louise Grant, who adopted two kittens from the store last week, said it felt like the right thing to do.
“I feel like the message is so drilled out there to adopt, not shop,” Ms Grant said.
“You see just how many animals are out there that need adopting … it just doesn’t feel right to buy an animal when there are ones that need a home.
“I think if you’ve got the capacity to do it then this is definitely the way to add a pet to your home.”
Jess Hitchen from local rescue group Pet Haven said the national day was a good chance to spread their message about pet adoption, and more people were listening.
“It’s been great to work with PETstock because it means we can adopt these animals out from multiple locations,” Ms Hitchen said.
“They’ve all been microchipped, desexed and vaccinated, so a lot of people are adopting because it takes the hassle out.
“I think people like the idea of adopting a lot more nowadays.”
