Firefighters save puppies from garage

By Tate Papworth

MFB firefighters rescued three puppies from certain death last week.

Crews were called to a house in Longfellow Drive, Delahey about 11am last Tuesday after reports of a house fire.

They arrived at the scene five minutes later to find the garage on fire and flames spreading to the roof of the adjacent house.

The occupant had managed to escape the premises and told crews that three puppies were still inside.

Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus entered the building and rescued the dogs while battling the flames.

They brought the blaze under control within 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

The occupant of the house was treated on scene by paramedics and reunited with the pooches.

It was a busy week for Brimbank firefighters, who also had their hands full as a blaze ripped through a house in Sunshine West.

Firefighters were called to an address on Yaralla Crescent about 9.20pm last Sunday following reports of smoke.

Crews entered the building to search for occupants and tackle the fire from the inside.

The house was empty and the blaze was brought under control in about 20 minutes.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
