Grade five pupils at Springside P-9 College in Caroline Springs are raising money for charity while developing their business nous.
The pupils will hold a market day on Friday, December 4, when other students can buy products from stalls and take part in small competitions.
Teacher Christiana Mouskeftaras said the youngsters have been learning about supply and demand, working in groups to create products or services and developing budgets, with the aim of making profits.
“This project aims to give students a real world opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of economics and business.
“In the process, they will raise money for charity and make a difference to the wider community,” she said.
Last year, pupils donated about $1500 to charities as a result of a similar project.
This year, the pupils are hoping to exceed that amount.
They support charities such as the Royal Children’s Hospital and the RSPCA.
