A group of Keilor residents is calling for major improvements to Milburn Road.
The gravel road is graded four times a year, but resident Novak Jankovic, who lives by the road, says that’s not good enough.
“We had grading works done here last week, where there was crushed rock placed on to the road, but four days later it already had potholes and track marks,” he said.
He said rainfall had contributed to the problem.
“But when it’s dry it just becomes a dustbowl,” he said.
The residents are calling on Brimbank council to come up with a more permanent solution.
“A few years ago, when they were doing the Calder widening works, LendLease inquired about using the road for their trucks during the work,” Mr Jankovic said.
“They were offering to do a seal of the road afterwards, which would have been great, but that fell through after their discussions with the council.
“A gravel road might have been all right when this was farmland carrying
tractors. But it’s residential now and we have trucks and everything coming through.”
Brimbank infrastructure and city services director Neil Whiteside said the road was deemed to be in good condition.
“Council recently completed maintenance works, grading, to Milburn Road in Keilor,” he said. “Recent heavy rain has resulted in minor deterioration of the road surface, however the road is still considered to be in a good condition.
“In keeping with council’s Road Management Plan, council will continue to monitor and maintain Milburn Road as required.”
Mr Jankovic disputes the “good condition” claim.
“How can a road surface that deteriorates this much in just four days be in good condition?’” he asked.
“It’s a safety issue as much as anything and it needs to be fixed.”
