Pool’s winter welcome

The Sunshine Leisure Centre’s outdoor pool will be available this winter.

Brimbank council is trialing winter hours for the outdoor pool – which is heated – following community demand.

Mayor Lucinda Congreve said it was an exciting time for the leisure centre.

“We’ve taken on feedback from members who said they were keen to have access to the outdoor pool outside of the summer months,” Cr Congreve said.

“So instead of closing the outdoor pool at the end of the summer season like we normally would, we’re starting a winter trial at Sunshine Leisure Centre from May 1.

“This means the outdoor pool will stay open for the entire year – so if you’re keen for a swim in the great outdoors in the middle of winter, Sunshine Leisure Centre’s got you covered.”

The outdoor pool will be open from 6am-9am and 4pm-7pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to noon on weekends under the new winter hours.

Cr Congreve said there were more improvements on the way.

“Later this year, we’ll be opening up the gym 24/7 to our members,” she said.

In addition to using equipment in the gym, members will be able to access virtual group fitness classes on demand.

“This is all about improving our service offering,” Cr Congreve said.

Other improvements will include the refurbishment of the foyer and reception area, heating in the outdoor changerooms and a facelift to the indoor changerooms.
