Police have intercepted 45 motorists breaking the law in Brimbank during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
Officers targeted high-risk driving behaviour across the state over four days from Friday, June 10 to Monday, June 13, as part of Operation Regal.
In Brimbank, 10 drivers were caught speeding while eight came to the attention of police for disobeying signs or signals.
Police also caught six unlicensed drivers, five disqualified drivers and four drink drivers.
Six people were fined for mobile phone offences and four people for seatbelt offences.
Police uncovered one unregistered vehicle, while one vehicle was impounded.
Road policing assistant commissioner Glenn Weir said it was “completely unacceptable” that “so many motorists” were continuing to take risks on the roads.
“We continue to detect a high number of speeding and unauthorised drivers – these are people that are making a conscious decision to blatantly disregard the road rules,” Mr Weir said.
Police say they will remain highly visible on roads across the state as the Victorian school holiday period begins next week.
“Police will continue to target and enforce against those who engage in risky driving behaviour, and we make no apologies for this. One bad decision is all it takes to cause a tragedy,” Mr Weir said.
