Police to hold St Albans information caravan

Homicide Squad detectives will tomorrow night set up an information caravan in the street where an elderly woman was fatally assaulted in St Albans.

A 77-year-old woman was found in a Willaton Street driveway about 7pm on Thursday, February 1.

She died in hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

A 30-year old St Albans woman was arrested last Friday and has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury,

The charge will be reviewed by the Homicide Squad at a later date. The woman is currently remanded to appear again at Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on May 28.

Investigators are still searching for the man who initially found the victim – he left the scene before speaking to police.

The man is perceived to be of Middle Eastern appearance, about 170-175 centimetres tall, aged in his late 40s to early 50s with a medium build and short dark hair.

He was wearing casual clothing which included a dark jacket and spoke limited English.

Police do not believe he was involved in the assault but will have information that can assist investigators.

Detectives are also keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage that may have captured the assault or the events leading up to it.

The caravan will be located on Willaton Street, St Albans from 5.30pm on Thursday, February 8.
