Victoria Police conducted a highly visible omni operation at Sunshine Railway Station last Friday on May 6.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said that it was an operation targeting concealed weapon offences.

“Under the Control of Weapons Act 1990, Victoria Police declared the area a designated area for weapons searches as part of Operation Omni,” the spokesperson said.

“The purpose of the operation is to target concealed weapons offences occurring in and around the Sunshine transport hub and to serve as a deterrent for would be offenders who think they can carry a weapon and threaten the safety of our community.

“In an ideal world, we would never have to run these operations, but the reality is a small number of people choose to carry weapons.

“Victoria Police’s role is to keep the community safe and we simply won’t tolerate weapons on the streets.”
