Victoria Police has said it will declare the St Albans area a designated area during the the St Albans Lunar New Year Festival on Sunday 18 January.
This will provide police with additional search powers to proactively target anti-social behaviour and weapon offences.
According to Victoria Police, current intelligence does not indicate there will be crime or public order issues at the 2026 festival, however police are well prepared and resourced to respond to any incidents that may occur.
Victoria Police said its priority is ensuring the event is a safe and family-friendly celebration.
Local police, the Public Order Response Team, Transit police and Protective Service Officers (PSOs) will be patrolling Alfrieda Street and surrounds to ensure the event remains safe.
Anyone engaging in criminal or anti-social behaviour can expect a swift response from police.
