Victorians struggling to put food on the table will benefit from a $13 million promise to the food relief sector from the state Liberals and Nationals.

In a statement, the coalition pledged $1 million funding grants to Foodbank, Second Bite and OzHarvest for their Victorian food rescue, procurement and distribution operations to enable these respected organisations to continue to deliver food relief.

A Food Relief Support Fund will be injected with $10 million to allow other Victorian food relief sector organisations, particularly smaller charitable or community volunteer organisations, to make “direct funding requests based on specific demonstrated relief needs, expansion of direct meal preparation and distribution or improved facilities and equipment”.

Opposition leader Matthew Guy said it was important to provide food relief to Victorians in need, including those in Brimbank.

“As many Victorian families struggle to meet the growing cost of living crisis, this critical support of food relief organisations will be even more vital,” he said.
