Students of Marian College have rolled up their sleeves and got in touch with their inner green thumbs.

Students joined in a number of activities, including a tree planting, to commemorate World Environment Day.

Student Cindy Uyen Nguyen said it was an enlightening day for all.

“It was a privilege and honour to participate in such a meaningful event.

“Being there to plant the trees, and listen to the speeches by the sustainability club leaders made me more aware of the earth,” Cindy said.

“It taught me what we are able to do as a community to ensure Earth’s resources are available for future generations to come.”

Fellow student Erna Ziko said it was the perfect way to mark the occasion.

“I thought it was nice that there was an organised ceremony for environment day. When the two girls talked about the issues on the planet it truly showed the awareness they were trying to create,” Erna said.

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 each year.

It’s the United Nation’s main initiative for promoting awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
