Paws for a good cause

Simon Reddy and Tracy Azzopardi love their four-legged friends, and they’re gearing up to show everyone just how much.

The St Albans couple will join thousands of fellow pet lovers from across Melbourne this weekend at the annual RSPCA Million Paws Walk, helping to raise $500,000 for the animal welfare charity.

Preparing for the day with their adopted pooches Tara and Bella, they said helping the RSPCA was a no-brainer.

“They’re fantastic to deal with, and while they can be tough when you’re adopting they’re only doing that for the dog’s protection,” Mr Reddy said. “We buy a lot of merchandise for the day, spread the word as much as we can, and we’ve got a couple of extra people coming with us this year, which is nice to see.

“It’s just a really fun day out and it’s all for a good cause.”

More than 15,000 people will join the walk at 16 different locations across Victoria on Sunday, May 20.

Mr Reddy said after seeing first-hand the efforts of the RSPCA, he wouldn’t hesitate to adopt through them again.

“There’s a lot of unethical breeders out there, and the RSPCA gives lots of support to you when you adopt through them,” he said.

“If you’re looking for your first dog they’re perfect, because they analyze your family life, your house, how often you can exercise them, and find the breed for you.”

“If we didn’t adopt these two they would have been put down,” Ms Azzopardi added.

“Every dog deserves a home.”
