Taylors Lakes Hotel is doing its bit to help fight the drought crippling parts of rural Australia – one parma at a time.
The hotel is taking part in the nationwide Parma for a Farmer campaign, with $1 from every chicken parma sold going towards drought relief projects.
Marketing manager Terry Gunn said the hotel hoped to see an increase on the 2500 parmas typically sold every month.
“We want to push that up to 3500 parmas if we can,” he said.
“Obviously, the produce that the farmers are producing is important because we buy that to put in our restaurants and feed our customers. So if we don’t have a good supply chain, then the whole system is interrupted.
“People are starting to realise that maybe we’ve underestimated the role of our farmers.
“We think everything just comes from a supermarket shelf, but there are people behind that shelf that provide the wholesale for the retail environment.
“If we don’t look after them with the bales of hay, or providing extra water, we don’t have produce.
“Everyone gets excited at this time of year to be coming out of winter, except for the farmers who can’t cultivate their crops. So we’re just doing our part to help where we can.”
The Parma for a Farmer campaign will run until the end of August.
