Brimbank’s acclaimed Creating Better Parks Open Space and Playground Policy and Plan has won another award.
At a ceremony in Queensland last month, the policy won the leisure and open space planning category at the Parks and Leisure Australia National Awards.
Brimbank mayor John Hedditch said it was great to see the policy receiving recognition.
“This multi-award winning policy and plan has already delivered significant improvements to parks across Brimbank, with the council investing about
$22 million upgrading 93 parks by June this year,” Cr Hedditch said.
“Creating Better Parks is well on the way to achieving its goal of creating one of the best park networks in Melbourne.”
The policy was first adopted by the council in 2008 as a blueprint to transform the municipality’s park network. It was updated in July 2016.
“A decade ago, Brimbank’s parks were dust bowls and wastelands with poor playground equipment,” Cr Hedditch said.
“The community advocated for change and Brimbank council listened and acted. Today the parks network is a national award winner.”
In May this year, the policy won in the Parks and Leisure Australia Regional Awards of Excellence (Vic/Tas Region) in the same category.
