Residents living near Deer Park station have raised concerns about the congestion on the streets surrounding their homes.

The issue was brought up in last month’s council meeting where councilors made calls for more to be done as new houses in the area were leaving more cars on the streets, making it congested and dangerous at times.

City Development director Kelvin Walsh said the local roads would be able to handle the extra cars despite complaints from local residents.

“On-street parking by rail commuters in streets surrounding railway stations is not an uncommon situation across metropolitan Melbourne,” Mr Walsh said.

“It is something that has only started occurring in this area over recent years because of changes to the railway network and the increase in the number of trains stopping at Deer Park, making it an attractive option for commuters.

“Despite the additional on-street parking resulting from the railway station, there is nothing to suggest that the local road network cannot support the two additional dwellings approved for the site at 15 Vincent Street.”

Mr Walsh said the area is often patrolled by council.

“Council parking enforcement officers regularly patrol around that area and action any complaints regarding parking.
