Park is back on track

A flood-damaged track in Brimbank Park, along the Maribyrnong River, has been reopened.

Parks Victoria area chief ranger David Collins said the track, which is predominantly for community use and local residents, was closed after it was severely damaged during a massive rain event in October last year.

“The river sections of the trail, where the surface was dislodged, exposed the base of the trail,” Mr Collins said.

“For a period of time it was unsafe to have people use it. Over several months, we did work that made it safe.”

Crews worked on re-topping and grading the track, and cleared culverts and drains. They eventually repaired 3.5 kilometres of the damaged track.

The track, which runs beside the Maribyrnong River from the southern side of Brimbank Park to Footscray, is popular with walkers and cyclists.
