The St Albans community has welcomed some extra colour into the neighbourhood in the form of a new mural.

Featuring messages such as ‘waste less, recycle more’ and painted on the back wall of Woolworths, Colombian artist Katherine Gailer (also known as Katira) delivered the piece as part of Sustainability Victoria’s ‘Small Acts make a Big Impact’ campaign.

Representatives from Sustainability Victoria, Brimbank council and the Victorian Multicultural Commission joined together to officially launch the mural on Tuesday, October 4.

Brimbank council’s arts and culture department offered in kind support with delivery of the mural and launch event, while the LOTE Agency provided further support.

Brimbank deputy mayor Thuy Dang said the art would allow the community to connect with the area’s diversity, heritage and aspirations.

“This mural is a great reminder that one small change in our behaviour towards living sustainably can make a difference to our environment,” she said.
