Melbourne’s next generation of actors could one day be traced back to a community centre at Braybrook.

Braybrook Community Hub’s new drama program, Wit Kids, has been such a hit they’ve added an extra day of classes each week.

“We have about 65 students at the moment, spread across Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes,” teacher Belinda Campbell said.

“The children take part in activities and games designed to develop storytelling, communication, co-operation and confidence,” said Ms Campbell, who, as well as teaching drama to children for Melton council, has written scripts for the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s theatre company in the west, wit incorporated.

“The children learn to improvise, create characters and explore movement, leading to a performance,” she said.

“Many who began this year with me were incredibly shy, scared to talk to me or even step inside the door.

Now, these children give me a smile, are happy to join in, and are even getting up in front of the class.”
