No drive tests or vehicle inspections at new VicRoads regional office in Sunshine

Brimbank drivers will have to drive as far as Melton, Werribee, Sunbury or Broadmeadows for VicRoads vehicle inspections and driving tests from early 2018.

The new VicRoads regional office planned to open in Clarke Street in Sunshine’s CBD in 2018 will not provide these services. They are currently offered at the existing VicRoads building on Ballarat Road.

VicRoads registration and licensing executive director Dave Shelton said drivers might have to “go to some more effort” to obtain vehicle inspections and driving tests by attending VicRoads offices based in Melton, Hoppers Crossing, Werribee, Sunbury or Broadmeadows.

The Sunshine office currently conducts an average 46 drive tests and 22 inspections a day, VicRoads says.

“They [drive tests and vehicle inspections] make up six per cent of the total transactions at Sunshine,” he said. “They are not a dominant transaction at Sunshine but we know they’re a very important one.

“It does mean [those] who are doing drive tests and inspections … may need to go to some more effort.

He said drive testing at Sunshine was “far from ideal” at the current location.

“It has a high rate of incidents due to the carpark set-up there,” he said.

“It has one of the highest fail rates for drive tests.”
