NGV Kids tours in Brimbank

The National Gallery of Victoria’s (NGV) Kids on Tour program has arrived in Brimbank, with a number of free art workshops for young people.

The program runs each summer to coincide with NGV’s Kids Summer Festival from January 14 to 22, and this year will reach 130 venues across Victoria.

This year’s theme for Kids on Tour is Let’s Make Art and it shares popular activities from the 2022 NGV Kids exhibition, Making Art: Imagine Everything is Real, which celebrates the work of influential 20th century artists, as well as local artists.

Melbourne illustrator Ruby Red and painter Archer Davies, produced some of the activities for this year’s program activities that teach young people about their contemporary art practice.

NGV youth and families coordinator Stephanie Pohlman said NGV Kids on Tour is a “really important” part of the annual NGV Kids program.

“It reinforces the gallery’s commitment to provide opportunities to communities across Victoria to connect with each other and connect with the gallery through art,” she said.

NGV Kids on Tour got started in Melton with a Make a Creature session on January 10, and a Create a Portrait with Archer Davies session on January 12.

The Archer Davies session focused on portraiture and showed young artists how to draw a subject’s face while highlighting their individuality through things like character, gestures, and movements.

There will be further sessions at Melton Library with a Make a Collage session on January 17, as well as sessions at Ballan Library on January 18, and Lerderderg Library on January 19.
