The colour purple tags the safest roads and footpaths to and from Gilson College for students ready to jump on their bikes for next Friday’s Ride2School Day.
Victoria’s Bicycle Network wants every student living within cycling distance of the school’s Taylors Hill campus to find the safest routes to their classrooms.
The annual Ride2School Day takes place around Australia, encouraging school-aged children to be more physically active. This year Gilson College decided to road-sign its routes.
Bicycle Network spokeswoman Anthea Hargreaves said the new stickers might give tentative students – or parents – enough confidence to ditch the cars for their bikes, scooters or skate boards.
“Active paths are designed to make the journey to school as direct, popular and fun as possible, making it easy for students and parents to ride and get active on their way to school,” Ms Hargreaves said.
“It also gives Gilson College students a headstart on National Ride2School Day.”
