New paramedic set to start

Brimbank will receive just one new paramedic in the latest roll-out of new graduates across the state.

The state government last week announced 48 new paramedics as part of its $500 million program to recruit 450 new paramedics in the next three years.

While Brimbank will receive just one paramedic this round, and the western suburbs just 10, the government has previously announced 14 new paramedics for the new ambulance centre in Taylors Lakes alone, as well as an unknown number for the new Brimbank super centre.

The new Brimbank paramedic is currently undergoing induction training and will be active from February 13.

Ambulance services minister Jill Hennessy said the investment in new paramedics is crucial to keep up with demand across the state.

“This is the biggest investment in Victoria’s history to cut ambulance response times and employ more paramedics to save more lives,” she said.

“I wish today’s newest paramedics long and rewarding careers making a real difference to the lives of Victorians.

“With more paramedics on the road, ambulances will be able to respond even more quickly, meaning families can have confidence that, in an emergency, they will get the care they need, when they need it.”

As part of the new investment, $50 million will go towards improving emergency departments, so patients can be treated and admitted quicker, freeing up ambulances to get back on the road sooner.
