A new library may be on the cards at St Albans.
With local library services at full capacity, Brimbank council will develop a business case for the expansion of services at St Albans, and a new library has been touted.
“The business case would consider all options,” acting director community wellbeing, Kath Brackett said.
“The development of a business case to increase capacity of the St Albans library is not yet under way, but would include investigating external funding sources.”
The council’s draft library strategy revealed services at St Albans are not meeting community needs. “The St Albans library is at capacity, and is unable to meet customer demand for seating, computer access or study space,” it found.
“Investigating options to increase library capacity at St Albans is ongoing.”
The last upgrade to St Albans library took place more than five years ago, with floor space increased and a computer room and extra spaces added.
There were nearly 1.1 million visits to Brimbank’s five libraries in 2014-15.
