St Albans Heights Primary School has marked its 50th birthday with a lasting symbol.
Earlier this month the school erected a gate designed by the students.
St Albans Heights Primary School principal Helen Otway said the gate is something that will stand the test of time.
“We wanted to do something special to mark our official birthday even though we had our party last term,” she said.
“The gate is a representation and something that can be here in the future. Something symbolic to mark the occasion.”
Ms Otway said students had significant input.
“We asked the children to help put ideas in to design the gate,” she said. “From those designs we decided what we could use in our gate.
“There were some great visual representations of what our school actually means. We needed designs that were going to last the distance and we definitely got that.
“We’ve left the school logo in the design and we were going to include our values, but we thought that maybe over time they may change, so we haven’t included them.”
Ms Otway said she hoped the gate was the first of many upgrades to the school’s entrance.
“The gate looks absolutely fantastic and we’d love to eventually have a fence to go with it,” she said.
“Funding can be difficult, but there’s some things we want to do around the entrance of the school, which will ultimately include the extension of the fence.”
