Business owners and residents have begun meeting with the Metropolitan Planning Authority (MPA) to have their say on future development at Sunshine.
The MPA has picked Sunshine as a national employment cluster in its revised Plan Melbourne blueprint, which is due for release later this year.
The authority’s aim is to transform central Sunshine into a thriving hub of jobs, businesses and services.
Focus groups were held last week to find out how the community see their city developing, among them Damian Thomson, who moved to Sunshine about a year ago.
He was attracted to the suburb because of its proximity to the city and transport connections.
He hopes its development as a national employment cluster will create more jobs and diversify housing options.
But, he is concerned about the impact on Sunshine’s green spaces.
Mr Thomson said he hoped the MPA would continue to involve residents as the project evolves.
MPA chief executive Peter Seamer said the planning body wanted to unlock Sunshine’s potential.
Some significant ideas for the city include commercial land rezonings, ‘greening’ entrance routes and boosting transport connections.
Feedback from the focus groups will be used to develop a framework plan for the area, to be released next year.
