Another former Sunshine North resident is seeking damages over practices at the former Wunderlich asbestos factory.
A Slater and Gordon spokesperson said legal proceedings had begun for an elderly resident who lived approximately 125 metres from the factory for “many years” and is now suffering from severe lung damage.
A Supreme Court jury awarded the family of former resident Marian Ciopicz $467,000 in damages in April, finding his illness was the result of asbestos exposure while playing at the back of the factory as a child.
The jury found the owner and operator of the factory, Seltsam Pty Ltd, had negligently allowed the father of three and grandfather of six to be exposed to asbestos dust and fibres.
Mr Ciopicz died last October before the matter reached court.
“Slater and Gordon has for many years now seen the devastation caused by the former Wunderlich asbestos factory in Sunshine North and we continue to act for those affected,” Slater and Gordon lawyer Michael Magazanik said.
