The Fitzgerald Road level crossing in Ardeer is set to be the 65th one removed in the state with the project set to be completed six months ahead of schedule in July this year.

The project will include a new road bridge going over the existing rail line and looping around to Forrest Street and Fitzgerald road on the other side.

Works are going to cause disruptions with road closures required on sections of Fitzgerald Road during July to complete the build.

Transport Infrastructure MP Jacinta Allan advised those using roads near the Fitzgerald Road level crossing to plan ahead as the project nears completion.

“Whether it’s the completion of the Monash Freeway Upgrade or removing our 65th level crossing months ahead of schedule – we’re supporting thousands of jobs and delivering the projects we promised,” Ms Allan said.

“We encourage Victorians travelling over winter to plan ahead as we deliver the projects our growing city and state needs.”

Roads and Public Transport MP Ben Carroll thanked affected residents for their patience.

“We always try and minimise disruption as much as possible and we thank Victorians for their patience as we get on with a huge program of works.”

Victoria’s Big Build is racing toward the target of removing 85 level crossings by 2025.
