A number of Brimbank school recoded above average results during last year’s NAPLAN tests.
The NAPLAN test occurs nationally and is a test of numeracy and literacy taken by students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9 each year.
St Albans Heights Primary School had pupils recording above average results across reading and writing.
Sunshine Harvester Primary School, St Albans Meadows Primary School and University Park Primary School also recorded above average results in all three categories.
University Park Primary School assistant principal Natalie Cummaudo said a focus on wellbeing helped pupils achieve strong results.
“Teachers have supported student wellbeing as a priority during the COVID pandemic, leading to increased engagement,” Ms Cummaudo said.
“Teachers have worked with students to develop their test taking skills and their ability to monitor their own progress and to set personal goals, resulting in success for our students.”
St Albans MP Natalie Suleyman said she was pleased with the results despite the challenges that students have been presented with.
“I’m very proud of the schools in St Albans,” Ms Suleyman said.
“In particular with what we have seen in the last two years with the pandemic, St Albans has really been able to achieve the best results and that’s thanks to the teachers, the school community and families for making this possible.
School did not take part in the NAPLAN test in 2020 due to lockdowns as students had to take up schooling from home through online classes.
Ms Suleyman said she was satisfied with the way schools were able to recover from these interruptions.
“This goes to show the spirit of our teachers, the dedication and the commitment we all have to make sure our kids are getting the best education,” she said.
“Our schools in St Albans have always been doing well.”
