If you live in and around Keilor, chances are you’ve walked past Diana Nakhuda hard at work. She speaks to Gerald Lynch about life in the hairdressing business.
Tell us a bit about you and what you do?
My name is Diana, I am the owner of Allechante salon in Keilor Downs and I have been a local hairdresser for 20 years.
I’ve worked incredibly hard over the last 16 years to bring a high standard and quality to our clients and I am humbled and proud of what it’s become.
When did it open and how has the experience been?
Allechante Salon opened its doors in 2008, so this November we will be celebrating 16 years in the centre. The experience has been great, we have seen many hair trends come and go. We have had to stay up to date with techniques and styles, we have renovated the salon a few times which is always fun. The salon is more than just a place to get your hair done, life long friendships are formed here. We have seen clients and their families grow in that time.
What do you like about Brimbank?
Brimbank holds a special place in my heart. I grew up here, went to school here, met my husband and had my children here. I love the diverse cultures and I enjoy going out for dinner and experiencing the different cuisines and traditions that the Brimbank community has to offer.
Where is your favourite local place to spend time?
When the weather is nice I love going for walks through the local parks and when the weather isn’t so great I cozy up in a local cafe.
Tell us something people would be surprised to know about you.
When I turned 21 my dad and mum gifted me the keys to Allechante Salon.
My dad John, the owner of John nuts has been a part of the Brimbank community for over 40 years, I get my strong work ethics from him.
