A Derrimut mum has stepped out of her comfort zone to star in the new television show, Making it Australia

It was by chance that Stephanie Martinez saw a TV advertisement for the show, and following the encouragement of her daughter, she applied.

The show involves 13 talented people showcasing their passion and skills for craft for a shot at the $100,000 grand prize and title of Master Maker.

Ms Martinez said the opportunity to be part of the show was a dream come true.

“I don’t watch TV, I don’t even know how to turn on the TV,” she said.

“My husband was watching it and the advertisement for the show came on and it was like it was speaking to me.

“I could have died when I found out I was on the show.”

Ms Martinez said she didn’t realise the extent of what she could create until she was on the show.

“I just thought everyone did crafts,” she said.

“It was a lot of fun to make the show, with some long days. I was on a high, I can’t describe how much fun it was crafting all day.

“I was like a kid in a candy shop.”

The first episode is due to screen on Wednesday.

Having ignited her passion, Ms Martinez is planning to turn her love of craft into a career.
