A proposal for a three-storey motel linked to an existing caravan park at Braybrook was last week approved by Maribyrnong council.

The site at 125-155 Ashley Street is buffered from residences and no objections were received.

Councillor Cuc Lam said the $20 million motel would promote tourism in Maribyrnong and help the local economy recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’m really, really so excited to see the project happening,” she said.

“The proposal is seeking to provide improved facilities to the existing caravan park with an investment of $20 million in the local economy and creating local jobs.

“That is so exciting after the pandemic.

“Hopefully, our local people have more jobs.

“The proposal is promoting tourism within Maribyrnong with an increasing choice of accommodation offerings while respecting the amenity of the adjoining properties.

“A number of significant trees are retained – this is so important for the environment – and additional trees will be planted during the construction to compensate for any loss of the native vegetation.”

Parking and access were deemed appropriate and the Department of Transport had no objections to the proposal subject to conditions, which included relocating the bus stop along Ashley Street.
