Helen Morrissey has been named acting chief executive of Brimbank council following the resignation of Paul Younis earlier this month.
Ms Morrissey (pictured) – who is currently the corporate and community relations director – will take over the position from July 7, following approval by councillors at last week’s meeting.
Ms Morrissey joined Brimbank council in 2010 after management roles at Maribyrnong and Darebin councils.
She said she was looking forward to her new role.
“It’s an exciting time for Brimbank,” Ms Morrissey said.
“I’m looking forward to working closely with the councillors and ensuring that many of the new initiatives in the plan and budget are implemented.”
Mr Younis said after 17 years in leadership positions in local government he would be sad to move on.
“I do appreciate the new democratically elected council that’s been a wonderful establishment for our community,” he said.
Mayor John Hedditch and deputy mayor Georgina Papafotiou will head up a chief executive recruitment committee.
