The next stage of work on the $1.66 million Hampshire Road upgrade will begin in early 2019.
The upgrades will include new traffic signals, bike lanes and lighting along the northern end of Hampshire Road.
Brimbank mayor Lucinda Congreve said the works will cater for the rapidly growing suburb.
“This project will significantly improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists in the fast-growing CBD of Sunshine,” Cr Congreve said.
“Council is excited to move forward with the next stage of the Hampshire Road Master Plan – which is transforming the heart of Sunshine into an attractive, well-planned space that is easy to negotiate.”
The works will focus on the area between Ballarat Road and the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre.
Some temporary road closures will be needed to complete the works. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to look out for and follow detour signs.
Access to shops, businesses and residences in this stretch of Hampshire Road will be maintained throughout construction.
The works build on already completed upgrades to Hampshire Road, which took place between Devonshire Road and the Sunshine train station and between Service Street and the man lifting cow statue.
